बर्बरीक महाभारत के एक महान योद्धा थे। वे घटोत्कच और अहिलावती(nagkanya mata) के पुत्र थे। बर्बरीक को उनकी माँ ने यही सिखाया था कि हमेशा हारने वाले की तरफ से लड़ना और वे इसी सिद्धांत पर लड़ते भी रहे। बर्बरीक को कुछ ऐसी सिद्धियाँ प्राप्त थीं, जिनके बल से पलक झपते ही महाभारत के युद्ध में भाग लेनेवाले समस्त वीरों को मार सकते थे। जब वे युद्ध में सहायता देने आये, तब इनकी शक्ति का परिचय प्राप्त कर श्रीकृष्ण ने अपनी कूटनीति से इन्हें रणचंडी को बलि चढ़ा दिया। महाभारत युद्ध की समाप्ति तक युद्ध देखने की इनकी कामना श्रीकृष्ण के वरदान से पूर्ण हुई और इनका कटा सिर अंत तक युद्ध देखता और वीरगर्जन करता रहा। कुछ कहानियों के अनुसार बर्बरीक एक यक्ष थे, जिनका पुनर्जन्म एक इंसान के रूप में हुआ था। बर्बरीक गदाधारी भीमसेन का पोता और घटोत्कच के पुत्र थे। | Khatushyamji is the name and manifestation of Barbareek.
